Sep. 09, 2020. According to the official figures released by the province, Sichuan is one of the six provinces with the heavies burden of poverty alleviation in China. Its poor population is mainly distributed in four major areas of the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures and Counties, the Qinba Mountains and the Wumeng Mountains. By the end of 2019, the number of poverty-stricken counties in the province had reduced from 88 in 2013 to seven while the number of the poverty-stricken villages had reduced from 11,501 to 300. The number of people registered as living in poverty from inhospitable areas has reduced from 6.25 million to 200,000. The problem of absolute poverty will be fully resolved by the end of 2020. 09SEP20 SCMP/ Simon Song
