Looking out over the original 1842 'cornstalks and beanpoles' version of the Potomac Creek Bridge on the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad in Stafford County, VA. During the Civil War, the bridge offered the only rail access between the Potomac River and the cities of Fredericksburg and Richmond. In the spring of 1862 as Confederate forces retreated to Fredericksburg the bridge was destroyed.
