María Isabel García, one of the last artisans of the Tuat pottery technique, a technique inherited from the indigenous people who bore the same name. María Isabel lives in the Tuat village, which is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Belen in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. This potter preserves the rudimentary manufacturing and firing techniques inherited from her indigenous ancestors. In Colombia, today, it is very rare to see ceramics being fired directly on the ground, without a kiln, as the inhabitants of America did before the conquest. This type of pottery, trade and craft are on the verge of disappearing due to the lack of transmission of knowledge of the technique and the lack of incentives for its promotion and marketing.
