AI vs humans. Graph charting the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to perform specific tasks compared to humans (1998 - 2023). Benchmarks such as recognition of speech, handwriting and images, as well as reading comprehension and language understanding have (in 2023) already exceeding the ability of humans. Other benchmarks such as code generation, grade school mathematics and common sense completion have not exceeded human performance. A potential bottleneck to AI’s progress might not be AI itself, but a lack of data for models to train on.
