Train wreck caused by the fracture of an axle on a railroad car traveling along the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad line in Northern Virginia. The accident occurred on March 28, 1863. A large group of men is seen here attempting to clear the wreckage from the tracks in an effort to get the train moving again.
