A Republican backlash against the Bush administration’s unprecedented intervention in the financial market grew Thursday as GOP leaders complained that officials refused to brief them on the situation and a group of conservatives called for halting further bailouts. Meanwhile, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., indicated it was possible the House could take some action on the crisis gripping Wall Street before the year was out, but that lawmakers would first need to get a better understanding of how the problems developed.
