Professor Gertjan Medema, recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize 2024, at the media conference, 16 April 2024. Professor Medema is principal microbiologist at the KWR Water Research Institute in the Netherlands. His work pioneered the use of wastewater surveillance to curb the spread of the coronavirus during the Covid-19 pandemic.
