Lost crew of helicopter are remembered, Beagle Point, Cornwall, Thursday 21st March 2024. Organised by RNAS Culdrose and 824 Naval Air Squadron, and attended by family members and Royal Navy personnel, a commemorative service takes place at Beagles Point on The Lizard to remember four naval aircrew who died in a Sea King helicopter crash 50 years ago to the day. On March 21, 1974, a Sea King helicopter from 824 Naval Air Squadron was on night exercises off the coast of The Lizard when it crashed into the cliff at Beagles Point. It was thought that the aircraft was attempting to reach land, and an inquest recorded that the tragic crash was an accident. The four crew members on board that night were pilot Captain Kenneth McDonald, 25, on exchange from the Canadian Navy, Sub-Lieutenant Stephen Johnson, 24, from Edinburgh, Sub-Lieutenant Edward Wild, 22, from London, and Leading Aircrewman Brian Sharpe, 27, from Peterborough. https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/gallery/poignant-service-remembers-crew-killed-9181210
