(240517) -- BAGHLAN, May 17, 2024 (Xinhua) -- This photo taken on May 16, 2024 shows the northern entrance of the Salang Tunnel on the border of Afghanistan's Baghlan and Parwan provinces. Connecting Kabul to the nine northern provinces onward to Central Asian states, the Salang Tunnel along the Salang Pass in Afghanistan was first opened in 1964 and was badly damaged due to more than four decades of wars. Reopened in 2023, the tunnel now serves as an essential lifeline for the war-ridden country. (Xinhua/Zhao Jiasong)
