Feb. 24, 2024. Boston, MA. Over 200 people gathered for a candlelight vigil for Nex Benedict, a nonbinary high school student from Oklahoma who died this month following a fight in a school bathroom. The teen died on Feb. 8 a day after the altercation. The death of Nex Benedict, 16, has prompted widespread attention and nationwide calls for schools to better protect students who may be bullied because of their gender and sexual identities. 2024 Marilyn Humphries
