01 February 2023, Rhineland-Palatinate, Mainz: Guests have gathered at a ceremony in the New Synagogue. At the ceremony, the Unesco certificate of recognition for the world heritage of the so-called Schum sites is presented. The designation stands for the Rhineland-Palatinate cities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz, which were centers of Jewish learning in the Middle Ages. The sites there had been included in the World Heritage List of Unesco, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural and Communication Organization based in Paris, in July 2021.
