PRODUCTION - 30 November 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Naumburg: Restorer Hannah Stahl opens the altar in the west choir of the cathedral in Naumburg with works by Leipzig artist Michael Triegel (central section) and Lukas Cranach the Elder. With his work, Triegel had completed again the church painting created in 1519 by Lukas Cranach the Elder. The location of the altarpiece in the west choir between the famous donor figures is disputed. In the view of experts from the World Council on Monuments Icomos, the work of art impairs the "extremely sensitive visual relationships in the west choir." Because of its location, there has even been public discussion about a possible withdrawal of the cathedral's World Heritage status. This Sunday, the public can take a last look at the artwork for the time being, before it will soon be shown in the Diözesanmuseum in Paderborn. According to a spokeswoman, some 73,000 people have seen the altar in Naumburg since July. Further stops are planned. It is expected to return at the end of 2024 or in the first half of 2025.
