19 July 2024, Thuringia, Rottleben: View of exhibits from a special exhibition in the Barbarossa Cave. Bats are unique and typical of the Kyffhäuser region: 20 of the 24 species living in Germany can be found here. The gypsum karst in the Kyffhäuser mountains is a paradise for bats. This unique landscape with its deep sinkholes, caves and nutrient-poor grasslands offers ideal living conditions for bats. Photo: Matthias Bein/dpa/ZB
