27 March 2024, Saxony-Anhalt, Oppin: Archaeologists from the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology are carrying out excavations on the future SuedOstLink direct current power line between Wolmirstedt (Saxony-Anhalt) and Isar (Bavaria). Within the route corridor, a remarkable burial has now been recovered near Oppin, which probably belongs to the late Neolithic period (approx. 2800-2200 BC). A large stone was placed over the skeleton's legs - it was probably intended to prevent the buried person from becoming a revenant. Photo: Heiko Rebsch/dpa
