28 May 2024, Saxony-Anhalt, Hadmersleben: The combo of three pictures shows the capitals in the south aisle of the "lower church" of the former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul in Hadmersleben. The columns and capitals of the south aisle belonged to the first Ottonian church. The monastery to which the church belonged was founded by Bishop Bernhard von Halberstadt in 961. This can be seen from a foundation charter, which is said to contain the signature of the still young King Otto II. Today, the monastery church stands above the lower church, the construction of which began in 1160. A further reconstruction in early Gothic style took place in 1320.
