21 May 2024, Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel: The sun is shining on the new building of the Geomar Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research. The approximately 15,500 square meter building at Seefischmarkt on Kiel's eastern shore combines 166 laboratories, climate chambers, a seawater connection as well as a conference area, library and computer center. The total cost is around 138 million euros - around 19 million more than originally planned. The project is largely financed by the federal government, with only ten percent coming from the state.
