Temporary church within St. Michael and All Angels, Shoreditch, [London], 1865. A '...view of the interior as it appeared a few months ago, while the work of its construction was going on over the temporary building in which the services of the Church have been carried on during the last two years. We believe the only known precedent for this singular expedient of placing the temporary church in the midst of the rising walls of the intended permanent edifice is to be found in the history of the building of York Minster. Architecturally, it is perhaps one of the finest churches lately built in London, being large enough to accommodate 1000 worshippers without any galleries, though only seated at present for 750...Internally, the fittings have mostly been gifts, and include a memorial window, executed by Messrs. Clayton and Bell...The reredos and font are by Mr. Thomas Earp; altar and choir fittings by Mr. Alfred Robinson, of Holborn; and gas and metalwork by Messrs. Peard and Jackson.
