07 July 2025, Brandenburg, Bersteland: 07.07.2025, Berlin. A wasp of the species Scolia hirta sits on the blossom of a thistle near Bersteland in Brandenburg. These massive solitary wasps are present in most of mediterranean and central Europe but in Germany they are rare and were even considered threatened with extinction. In recent years, however, they have become more common again in Berlin and other eastern German states. The reason for this could be climate change.
