07 July 2025, Spain, Portol: The Siurells can be seen in the "Siurells Ca n'Antonia" workshop in Portol. The siurells are made of clay painted in bright colors such as red, green and blue on a white background. They have a whistle that produces a high-pitched sound. They usually depict animal, human or mythological figures. The origin of siurells is a mystery. They are considered to be one of the oldest handicrafts in Mallorca and could be related to toys or amulets from ancient Mediterranean cultures. Photo: Clara Margais/dpa
