Authorities in restive Kashmir placed separatist leaders under house arrest on Saturday to thwart a rally marking the anniversaries of the death of two of the independence movement's key figures. It was the first time in over two decades that authorities in the revolt-hit Muslim-majority region prevented separatist leaders from holding the annual event to honour Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone.
