(110128) -- YINGSHANG, Jan. 28, 2011 (Xinhua) -- Philanthropist Wang Jiayu (C) sits with his adopted orphans in an orphanage founded by him in Yingshang County, east China's Anhui Province, Jan. 27, 2011. 71-year-old Wang Jiayu is a grass-roots philanthropist who founded the orphanage in Yingshang County in 1994. In the past 17 years, Wang adopted more than 500 orphans and disabled children, including 252 still living in the orphanage. Besides maintaining a comfortable living condition for those children, Wang founded a special school in the orphanage to ensure their educational demands met. The school fruited, with an orphan enrolled by a university and seven going to high school. Wang Jiayu's benevolence brought nationwide reputation to the orphanage, to which tens of orphans and disabled children were sent from around the country every year. Also affected by this philanthropist, the local government offered orphans basic allowances, and the public responded by sending funds and gifts to them. "We renovated our orphanage and bought new furniture and appliances in 2010 with the help of good people, and we need to tell children what people have done for them. Children should learn gratitude and the way to repay kindness with kindness," Wang Jiayu told to media. (Xinhua/Li Jian) (zn)
