(110909) -- BADONG, Sept. 9, 2011 (Xinhua) -- Students of the Badong No.1 High School carry their luggage to the vehicles heading to the new Baitupo campus in Xinling Township, Badong County, central China's Hubei Province, Sept. 8, 2011. About 2,600 students of the Badong No.1 High School are about to move into a new and safer campus in Baitupo of Xinling Township in Badong County, central China's Hubei Province, marking the start-up of relocating tens of thousands inhabitants in the landslide-endangered region. In the early 1990s, the school along with tens of thousands local residents were relocated to the Huangtupo area as part of the relocation project for the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest water control and hydropower project which spans China's Yangtze River. But the Huangtupo area is later found exposed to secondary geological hazards like cave-in, landslide and mud-rock flow. In March 2009, China's State Council made a decision to relocate the inhabitants in the Huangtupo region again to a safe place. The new campus of the Badong No.1 High School, with an investment of 230 million yuan (about 36 million U.S. dollars), covers an area of 304 mu (about 20.27 hectares) and is able to accommodate 4,000 students and teachers.
