11 April 2021, Thuringia, Weimar: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier lays a wreath at the memorial site during the commemoration ceremony for the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp 76 years ago. Between 1937 and 1945, the Nazis deported more than a quarter of a million people from many countries to the concentration camp on the Ettersberg near Weimar. 56,000 people were murdered or died of torture, hunger or forced labour.
