11 September 2024, Saxony-Anhalt, Harzgerode: Finds from last year, such as this mouth cup from the High Middle Ages, came to light during excavation work to investigate the lost medieval village near Harzgerode. Since 2022, the deserted village of Baurod near Harzgerode has been the focus of archaeological research by the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology (LDA). The investigations are being carried out in cooperation with the Department of Prehistory and Early History at the Georg August University in Göttingen. The medieval village was first mentioned in documents in 1216 and fell into ruin between 1488 and 1562 at the latest. Photo: Matthias Bein/dpa
