20 June 2025, Saxony-Anhalt, Kroppenstedt: Martin Kolbe from the Red Kite Center at the Heineanum attaches a transmitter to a 33-day-old red kite in a thicket to transmit the position and flight route of the bird of prey. The number of breeding pairs of red kites in Saxony-Anhalt has decreased this year. According to the Red Kite Center, this is due to feeding conditions. There are natural fluctuations in the population of mice. With a smaller mouse population, as is currently the case, red kites breed less frequently. With 2300 breeding pairs, Saxony-Anhalt is the largest red kite breeding area in Germany. Photo: Klaus-Dietmar Gabbert/dpa/ZB
