14 February 2020, Rhineland-Palatinate, Bundenbach: Near Bundenbach slate is mined in an open pit (aerial photo with a drone). 400 million years ago in the area of today's Rhenish Slate Mountains, very fine mud was deposited on the bottom of a primeval sea, which was folded up into slate under high pressure and high temperatures when the mountains were formed.
