22 January 2025, Saxony, Selben Beuí Delitzsch: Association chairman Patrick Fölsch and Lisa Schüttler from the Förderkreis zur Rettung der Kirche Selben and the newly founded association "Schöner Leben Selben" e.V. stand during construction work on the partially attached pulpit altar in the Gothic hall church built around 1500, which was named Church of the Year last year. The small fieldstone church had to be closed by the building authorities in 2019 due to groundwater subsidence in the former open-cast mines in Delitzsch and the surrounding area because of a massive risk of collapse. Thanks to the efforts of the members over many years to save their church, it can now be renovated with funding of 800,000 euros from the LMBV (Lausitzer und Mitteldeutscher Bergbau-Verwaltungsgemeinschaft), the Monument Preservation Foundation, former SED assets and the state of Saxony. With the help of the association, the church, which is one of the oldest places of worship in northern Saxony, is to become the local center and cultural meeting place, where readings, concerts and exhibitions will take place in addition to church services.
