02 August 2019, Poland, Wielun: The contemporary witnesses Zofia Burchacinska and Jozef Stepien stand for a photo in a ruin of a church in the small town of Wielun. On September 1, 80 years ago, the Second World War began with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany. The first bombs fell without a declaration of war on the small town of Wielun not far from the border. At the end of the war Poland had between five and six million dead, the extent of the destruction was unprecedented.
