PRODUCTION - 27 March 2023, Bavaria, Hilpoltstein: View under the 120-ton lock gate in the underwater area into the lock chamber of the Hilpoltstein lock on the Main-Danube Canal, which has been drained for maintenance work. Around 20 experts from the Water and Shipping Authority (WSA) will be inspecting the concrete surfaces, lock gates and other steel parts for damage until the end of the week. First, however, the experts had to let the water out of the lock and remove the sediment. Then, the approximately 70,000 square meters of concrete and steel surfaces had to be cleared of mussels and cleaned with high-pressure cleaners. According to the WSA, the lock with a lifting height of almost 25 meters is one of the three highest in Germany. Photo: Daniel Karmann/dpa
