03 May 2024, Brandenburg, Wuhden: In remembrance, a member of the Verein zur Bergung Gefallener in Osteuropa e.V. (VBGO) throws a red carnation into a grave site with small coffins containing the remains of German soldiers from the Second World War. In Wuhden (Märkisch-Oderland district), the mortal remains of eight German soldiers from the Second World War have been laid to rest. A total of 247 war dead have already been recovered in the Klessin area near Wuhden, a spokesman for the Association for the Recovery of Fallen in Eastern Europe explained on Friday. Heavy fighting took place there in February and March 1945 around the Soviet bridgehead west of the Oder. Photo: Patrick Pleul/dpa
