PRODUCTION - 16 April 2024, Saxony, Schkeuditz Bei Leipzig: During an integrated school zoo lesson at Thomas Müntzer Primary School in Schkeuditz, the young goat Caspar Fridolin stands on the bench next to the pupils of a third class, who are asked to answer questions about pets in Germany's largest and oldest school zoo. The little goat is one of over 250 animals and 45 species at the school, which uses the special "School in the countryside with a school zoo" concept to provide opportunities for animal-assisted education. They learn how to handle pets responsibly in a practical way and in line with the curriculum, look after the animals with the teachers and two animal keepers, feed them, help muck out the stables or build small huts for their pheasants and ducks in craft lessons. With its special kind of school and its school zoo, which will be 70 years old next year, the elementary school has made it into the top 20 best schools in Germany that have applied for the German School Award 2024.
