10 May 2024, Saxony, Chemnitz: The slogan "Look at the people!" advertises the new special exhibition at the Gunzenhauser Museum of the Chemnitz Art Collections. The new show takes an in-depth look at the New Objectivity type portrait in its historical context. On display are numerous works by artists such as Otto Dix, George Grosz, Jeanne Mammen and Hanna Nagel, who focused on the typical nature of the people portrayed. The show also takes a direct look at the present day with an installation specially conceived for the exhibition, Alpha Dog by Cemile Sahin. In it, the artist examines how historical methods of typification have been further developed by modern technologies for military purposes and surveillance.
