The capsized Costa Concordia cruise ship lies off the port of Giglio Island (Isola del Giglio), Italy, 17 May 2012. The cruise liner rests half-sunken in front of the Giglio island, after it hit underwater rocks on 13 January 2012. After the 'de-fueling' process which was aimed at avoiding spillage and the contamination of one of the Mediterranean's most pristine natural sanctuaries, has been completed the cruise ship is to be recovered by the US company Titan Salvage and the Italian stage specialist Microperi. To do so, there will be established an underwater stage to avoid the further subsidience of the wreck. Photo: Wolfgang Thieme
