Protesters blocked traffic at the Space Needle during the demonstration. Over 80 people peacefully marched from Cal Anderson Park to the Space Needle and back to Capitol Hill to demand justice for Nichols. The protesters marched through Capitol Hill, downtown, and South Lake Union while chanting the name of Tyre Nichols, who was killed by Memphis police earlier this month. Five Black police officers, shown in the Friday video, chased and pummeled Nichols and left him on the pavement propped against a squad car as they fist-bumped and celebrated. As a result of the Jan. 7 incident, five officers were fired and face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression. As of Jan. 10, Nichols had passed away. (Photo by Chin Hei Leung / SOPA Images/Sipa USA)
