Workers dismantle the monument of Soviet Red Army soldiers at the Antakalnis cemetery in Vilnius. The memorial, built in 1984, was dedicated to the Red Army soldiers who died during the liberation of Vilnius from Nazi invaders during WWII. On December 6th, 2022 the dismantling of the monument started despite interim measures, that were imposed by the United Nations Human Rights Committee after a petition signed by few 'ethnic Russians'. The Russian Embassy in Lithuania called the removal of the monument a 'barbaric mockery' and called 'to assess this demonstrative disregard for the decisions of the UN body'.
