George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Irish dramatist, critic and Fabian, 1893. The author of such well known works as Pygmalion and Saint Joan, Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1925. A committed socialist, he also wrote numerous pamphlets on social and political issues, many of them published by the Fabian society.
