24 September 2022, Tanzania, Arusha: The jeeps of various safari operators drive in the Ngorongoro Crater one after the other on a path. The cauldron of the Ngorongoro Crater covers about 260 square kilometers. Like the other giant craters, Ngorongoro is not part of the Serengeti, but was carved out as a protected area in 1956 because of the habitat for the Masai and declared a Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) was declared a Man and Biosphere Reserve in 1971 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Photo: Soeren Stache/dpa
