WASHINGTON, DC - April 17: U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan., during a rally with other members of Congress and representatives of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers protesting the awarding of the Air Force's tanker program to European EADS. At far left is Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.;at far right is Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. Tiahrt is one of the leaders of the "Buy American" push that is trying to get reversed the awarding of the $35 billion Air Force's tanker program to European EADS, rather than U.S.-based Boeing.Tiahrt, a member of House Appropriations, is one of several lawmakers looking to include in a bill a provision that not only would undo the award to Northrop Grumman but also permanently rewrite the rules of Pentagon procurement in ways that would clearly favor U.S. bidders over foreign ones."
