16 May 2024, Brandenburg, Reitwein: A lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) flies in the blue sky and the morning sun makes its plumage shimmer metallic green and purple. This year, the now rare meadow bird has been named "Bird of the Year 2024". The bird has striking decorative feathers on its head - in flight, these are usually close to its body.
