Bomb Squad Drama in Derby, Sunday 5th December 2021. More than 50 houses have been evacuated in Derby after a number of suspicious items were found while a warrant was carried out in the city. The bomb squad are currently in King Alfred Street and witnesses say that officers and the army have "blocked off the road" while the incident is being dealt with. A 50 metre exclusion zone is also now in place in the area. A spokesperson from the force said: "Officers attended a house in King Alfred Street at around 11.30am. A man has been arrested and remains in police custody. "The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are on-site and a number of houses are currently being evacuated in King Alfred Street, Monk Street and Wolfa Street. "Residents are asked to stay away from the area and those evacuated will be contacted when it is safe to return to their homes." Pictures show police, the army and the fire service all at the scene. One witness said he saw "loads of police" and they brought two vans up. An army spokesperson said: "I can confirm an army explosive ordnance disposal team have been called out to King Alfred Street in Derby.
