06 May 2021, Berlin: The Roloway monkeys Akua (l) and her partner Madiba have been new residents at Tierpark Berlin since last week. Here, the endangered monkeys will provide for offspring in the future and thus contribute to saving this extremely rare species. The male Madiba (5) comes from Duisburg Zoo, his partner Akua (4) from the Dutch Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen. Due to the destruction of their habitat and poaching, the populations have declined rapidly; according to estimates, only around 300 Roloway's guenons still live in their original range.
