PRODUCTION - 27 May 2024, Saxony, Leipzig: In his small workshop in the west of Leipzig, trained guitar maker Tom Ziegenspeck makes ukulele soundboards in a glue rack. The 31-year-old master plucked instrument maker, who has been making the ukulele, which is particularly popular in Hawaii, for 10 years, is the only ukulele maker in Germany to build a harp ukulele for music lovers with four additional bass strings instead of the usual four strings. Played electrically, its exotic Hawaiian sound is particularly popular in music groups, but also in Hawaii. The ukulele, also known as the jumping flea in Hawaii, is becoming increasingly popular in Germany, especially among young people. Photo: Waltraud Grubitzsch/dpa
