Petar Tubic from Gornja Paklenica near Doboj on Mount Ozren in Bosnia and Herzegovina saved two bear cubs from certain death after they lost their mother in the wild. Now cubs are grown bears and tame pets named Masa anda Ljubica. Five years ago Tubic found Masa vulnerable and alone in a forest. He was afraid that other animals will hurt her so he took her home. He didn't know anything about bears so he asked a local veterenarian and read proffesional literature. He tells that she was like any other pet. In the mornings she drank milk with a bit of honey while Tubic and his wife drank their coffee. A year after, a woman found another bear cub. They found her mother dead next to her. The woman couldn't keep the cub, so Tubic went to her house, took the cub and named her Ljubica. Masa got her name from a cartoon character while Ljubica got her name after a woman that saved her. At first Masa and Ljubica didn't know about eachother because Tubic was afraid how will Masa react. When they finally met eachother it was the greatest joy for both of them and now they are inseperable. They have their own space with a small swimming pool. When there are no visitors, they are taken to the large pool to refresh themselves. Each has made its own den for winter, but they do not stay in it. They both love people very much, especially when they know they will get candy from them. Photo: Ivica Galovic/PIXSELL
