Dr Robert Webster OAM - President of RSL Victoria, speaks during ANZAC Day Dawn Service, at Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance memorial. The Dawn Service is conducted as part of ANZAC Day ceremonies to honor those who have fallen in battle. During World War I, dawn became a favored time for attacks. Soldiers in defensive positions were woken in the dark before sunrise and manned their weapons before the first light. After World War I, returned soldiers sought the comradeship they felt in those quiet, peaceful moments before dawn. Recalling the moments at dawn before battle, a dawn commemorative service became an important form of commemoration after the war. (Photo by Alexander Bogatyrev / SOPA Images/Sipa USA)
