Prince Andrew settles civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by Virginia Giuffre - see the court documents. In this two page letter filed to a US district judge on February 15, lawyers for Andrew, 61, and 38-year-old Giuffre stated the two had reached a “settlement in principle”. It read: “The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed).” The unsigned letter added that the Duke would make a “substantial donation” to Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights and that he had “never intended to malign Ms Giuffre’s character” and that he recognised she had “suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks”. The out-of-court settlement means the Duke of York will be spared giving evidence at a potentially embarrassing trial in New York. In response to the letter, a same day order was issued by US District Judge Lewis Kaplan granting the lawyers' application and confirming the matter would be held "in abeyance" until March 12, 2022. It added that providing that a "stipulation of dismissal" is filed by that date, the matter would not be sent to trial.
